Fresh Fingers Odor Bar

Okay, here's another. Its more for fly tying than specifically for
fishing. "Angelina Fiber" from
http://www.texturatrading.com/angelina.html Very inexpensive and used
by yarn makers and "scrapbooking" enthusiasts. Put some in with your
dubbing, stick it in the coffee grinder, instant flash in your dubbing.
41 colors available and it doesn't take much to really dress up you
dubbing. You can also iron it between two pieces of butcher paper and
come up with wingcase or winging material with a great flash (try the
pearl color for a scud back or the "enchanted forest flash" for a stone
fly). It mixes well with itself and other dubbing.
I found it at a quilt and fibre show. You can call the lady at Textura
and she'll send you any amount you might want. Stuff is awesome.

Because I can't do a nail knot for **** I acquired a nail knot tool that
works as advertised, even for these short fat stubby fingers...it lives in
my "travel" fishing stuff.

The best tool I've found for tying nail knots is simply a bicycle
pump "needle". I hacksawed the tip off and rounded the sharp edges off
with a file.

need to change leaders on the water)

I have found the iPod to be a great gadget for the fishing trip. Great while driving to the fishing hole to get amped up. Great during the down-times while fishing. Great for making myself feel better on the drive home after not catching any fish. You might even be able to find a free ipod by checking http://www.freeiPods.com/default.aspx?referer=7223026.

Here is my contribution:

A stainless steel "soap bar" that is the size of a large dog tag that fits
nicely in my vest (It has a hole in it so you can use a keeper, very handy).
I am never worried about fish odor just my own scent sending the fish away
in a hurry.

Fresh Fingers Odor Bar and it cost less than $3.00 US from a cooking section
in a department store. Here is the company that supplies them:

To each his own, and an iPod does allow you to keep the
noise to yourself, as opposed to a boombox. But it does
bother me that we seem to be getting to the point that we
cannot have a noiseless venue. Almost anywhere one
goes, there is a speaker blaring, almost as though people
are afraid to be left to their own thoughts or have to converse
with the people around them.

I don't like listening to music when I'm outside -- fishing or skiing or
whatever. The iPod is great in the car, though. Instead of carrying
around a lot of CDs and changing them all the time, everything goes on
the iPod, and you can easily make mixes with only the songs you like. It
can be plugged into a cassette deck or played on an unused FM channel.

When I was younger I'd always have music blaring when I was outside,
but I don't ever do it anymore. I'd miss too much. I want to hear the
birds, the river, the trees rustling, the sound of a fish breaking the
surface. That's all music to me.

And of course the schhhhick of the finely tuned Norris making wispy
shavings. Right?

OBROFF- Frank learned me the beauties of outdoor fly tying during Penns. My
picnic table has been duly sworn into duty. Nothing quite like the laugh of
the woodpecker and the lilt of the goldfinch to accompany a session of
tying.

Well, I don't have a Norris, but a Clark & Williams wooden smoother
(55 degree bedding angle) makes some pretty fine music. :-)

And there's nothing like making a shaving so thin that it only has
one side. ;-)

Somehow, I suspect you're NOT talking about me. I can't remember ever
going "schhhhick" and I'm certainly not finely tuned.

Is that some kind of plane used in making bamboo rods?

vince, the norris variety.

Vince-

You made very nearly that same noise on Tom's front porch, popping open
Yuenglings a few months ago. :-)

One of your ancestors was a plane manufacturer in England, and happened to
produce some of the finest and most lusted after planes ever built. Their
most highly regarded (well, all of their planes are highly regarded, but...)
are their infill smoothing planes, which, as Chuck alludes to, can produce
"one-sided" shavings and baby's-butt-smooth finishes on even the most
difficult to plane woods.

http://www.antiquetools.co.uk/norris.html

I don't own one. :-( Yet. :-)

A Norris plane would not be the best tool for bamboo rod making, although
could come in handy whilst building a fly tying station or rod cabinet.

I guess you're right, Bill. I just didn't know it was spelled that
way!

One of your ancestors was a plane manufacturer in England....

Probably not; my ancestors came from Ballybricken, County Waterford.

"Norris" is a corruption of "Norseman." As you know if you're a
faithful reader of Hagar the Horrible, the Vikings spent most of the
8th and 9th centuries raiding England, Ireland, and other places with
good food and drink and pretty women. (I've been accused of having a
strong family resemblance to Hagar.)

The three major cities of Ireland--Dublin, Waterford, and Galway--
were founded by Vikings who decided that living there was better than
up in Frozen Norway.

So there are lots of Norrises in both Ireland and England. I suppose
in some very distant way we're all related. (Them Vikings did a lot of
carrying-on.)

Thanks very much for the information.

vince
