First Baitcasting reel ?
Since I have several fishing spots around my home in Columbus and I don't
want to pay for $3 a gal. gas I am going to take up fishing. I last hooked a fish in 1968. I have read and read and the only reel I can't find any info on it the Guide Gear® 11-Ball Bearing Baitcaster which is on sale for $69 down from $150. I am willing to go $130 or so. The Shimano Curado, QUANTUM ENERGY PT E600PT are strong contenders. If the Guide Gear is a sound reel I could use the savings for a better rod. Thanks in advance |

COnsidering you havent hooked a fish since 1968 do you really want to start out with a Baitcaster? Just about anything by Quantum or AG are good reels but considering the amount of practice it takes to master Baitcasting Reels (it took me years to be able to master my AG to the point of perfect accuracy, then I still wouldnt call it perfect) when you would probably gain much more enjoyment and faster results with a spinner. Then again, you didnt mention at what level you left fishing i.e. novice to expert. |
You make a good point. I have cleaned and serviced my old Johnson spincast
with the hope that it will bring me enough pleasure to keep me on the water while I start the baitcast learning curve. |
I just won a SHIMANO CURADO 200B5 on ebay for $85 shipped. The retrieve is
slower then the Guide Gear® 11-Ball Bearing Baitcaster, and I paid a little more. The strong reviews for the Curado made up my mind. Thanks " |

Thanks in advance For less than your target of 130 the Shimano Curado is pretty hard to beat, and if you do manage to beat it up too bad you can send it in and have it rebuilt pretty reasonably. -- Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com |
