i'll be going to cabo san lucas in march. can anyone advise me about
surfcasting there? where, license necessity, baits and rigs, native
species, best time of day etc. thanx in advance, rick

I know I'm mad but Surfcasting .............

Best BIG fish fishing out that way is on the boats

the other tiddler bashing is of piers unless you know some good beaches
/rocky bits into deep water

Rigs though are similar to over here just beefed up to cope with 80lb plus
fish

Surfcasting aroubd Cabo is brilliant, and you'll have the beaches to
yourself because everyone else is out boatfishing.. Word of caution
though, The swells are huge. On no account try wading -people have
drowned just walking along the beach. Best thing to do is find a spot
where there's an outcrop of rock that gives more sheltered water. You
can spin but you need a really heavy spoon - like a Crocodile - to (a)
get out far enough and (b) to 'grip" the water.Big Spanish mackerel are
likely and, if you're lucky, roosterfish.

Surfcasting with bait - use mackerel or mullet chunk and, once again,
find a spot where the rocks breeak the swell down a bit. Given that,
you can use regular UK surfcasting gear with 4- 5 oz grip pleads. With
average luck you'll catch anything from (small) hammerhead sharks to
pargo (bream) which are great eating. Rays, especially stingrays, can be
a nuisance though

But watch those swells !!
