Did a little fishing today...

Finally, after a long, cold winter, I was finally persuaded to do some
ice-fishing. We went to Green bay off Lake Michigan for a nice day on the
ice. We used Automatic Fisherman for static lines and jigged using Jigging
Rapalas tipped with wax worms. The Automatics did a great job, and of all
the bites on the rigs, we only missed two fish, which was a far better
average than our jigging!

The majority of the fish were whitefish with one bonus walleye. To give you
an idea of the scale of the fish, the base on the Automatic in the
background is 23 inches long. I have a lot of fish to clean, some for
fillets and some for smoking.

i love fishing...and no doubt that's a fine catch, but i reckon i'd as
soon have a colonoscopy as try to trick a fish in that environment and
manner. y'all drink anti-freeze up your way, don't you?

Sounds like a great day on the ice. The automatics are no-no's over
here.

Liked the pic. thanks for update

LOL, you'd think so, wouldn't you, but, I drink Bacardi & Coke or scotch.

Actually, it was really nice out on the lake yesterday. It was in the upper
30's/low 40's and with only a layer of long underwear, jeans, decent boots,
a sweatshirt and a Carhartt coat, I was quite comfortable. That's saying a
lot, because after two heart attacks, I don't do well with cold weather like
I used to. And I'd much rather fish in those temps than have something
jammed up my butt! :-)

It was a great day. I've only fished for whitefish once before and didn't
get into the fish like we did yesterday. It was a ball! I've got them all
cleaned up, with six slated for the smoker, several pounds were dropped off
with a friend to be pickled and the rest are frozen fillets in the freezer.
If you've never eaten fresh whitefish, you're in for a treat to try some!

I heard that they were not allowed in Minnesota, which really sucks as
they're not much different than a tipup, but you get the fun of playing a
fish on a rod.
