Llyn Brenig Fishing Report Weekend 18th June

The weather last week wasn't the best for angling at Brenig with
temperatures over 20 degrees, bright sun and strong north winds. Fish
have been preoccupied feeding on big columns of daphnia and the
abundance of brown beetle and green weevil which has blown onto the
surface. Best areas have been the Dam wall, around the cages and hafod
lom. Bank Anglers struggled last week as the majority of fish have been
beyond there casting ability. Rod average for bank anglers was 2.5 where
as boat anglers have been more successful with a respectable 4.35 per
angler. Best-recorded fish of the week was a 7lb blue caught by Mr R
Egan on a cat's whisker. On Thursday Brenig hosted the 2006 ladies
international with most of the boats out all week fish had become wise
to bright lures and fast retrieves which England took to there advantage
fishing the washing line method with two cormorants up the cast fished
slow produced them gold medals with 53 fish for 105lbs 8.25oz with the
hosts taking silver 51 fish for 91lbs 11.25oz Scotland took bronze with
42 fish for 79lbs 1oz and the Irish ladies took home the wooden spoon!
This coming week we hope to put some extra fish on top of the usual 1200
fish stocked to give the lake a boost. Foxons Trout League takes place
again this Sunday, boats are available all week however please phone and
book. Tight lines
