I wondered if a 4 wt outfit for fly fishing Washington and Canada was
appropriate.Don't plan on fishing the larger rivers and live out of state.If
this weight is fine can you recommend a package for $250 or less.

What species do you plan to be fishing for. If you're talking about
hitting a salmon run, no, a 4wt won't work, but a 8 or 7 will. A 4 wt will
work for run of the mill trout, bluegill, maybe small mouth bass.

hitting a salmon run, no, a 4wt won't work, but a 8 or 7 will. A 4 wt will
work for run of the mill trout, bluegill, maybe small mouth bass.

IMO, a 4wt would be fine for hauling in 10, 12, 14" small stream smallmouth
and trout, but would be too small for throwing the #6 streamers, buggers,
and such, that are so successful on smallmouth. I prefer a 6wt for this
reason, and think a 5wt would be a good compromise if you're looking to go
with lighter gear.

That was my reasoning on the "maybe". I was hoping to get some input on
what he's going to be using the rod for before going into more detail. If
I were in that area, I'd be targeting much bigger fish.

I agree with the other posts. It depends on what you want to catch.
When I can get to Canada, I like to fish for pike with my 8 wt. It's
a blast, especially when they're hitting poppers. I would want a 5
wt. for bass.

I agree with the other posts. It depends on what you want to catch.
When I can get to Canada, I like to fish for pike with my 8 wt. It's
a blast, especially when they're hitting poppers. I would want a 5
wt. for bass.
