MA fly fishing
I am looking for a good river to fly fish for trout in Massachusetts. Can
anyone recommend one? I have heard the Deerfield River in western Mass is good, but that is about a 2 hour drive for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

There are quite a few rivers east of the Quabbin that hold trout for most of the year if not year-round... /daytripper (who won't give up the 'secret spot' no matter what ;-) |

Pete already told the whole freakin' world. ;-( BTW, I fished there a few days ago - very frustrating. Fishies everywhere, but I couldn't figure them out. We should have a Mass Exodus again there in the near future so we can gang up on 'em. I'm heading down to Orlando on Sunday to great Ivan. Should I make it out alive, we ought to plan an outing before the leaves start falling. Anything within an hour drive would be great! I have also thought about going to southern New Hampshire, but don't know any fishing holes there. |

Close to you, can't vouch for them but have heard they get stocked with trout: - Ipswitch River - Shawsheen River An hour might be cutting it close for these, but they definitely hold trout: - Nissitissit River near Pepperell - Squannacook River near Townsend You would do well to pick up a copy of the Trout Unlimited book on Trout Fishing Southern New England (or something like that - my copy is buried somewhere in the house) and/or a Delormes Gazetteer for Massachusetts, either will put you where there are trout. cheers /daytripper |
