Why 10/15lb fish?
You need a plunder pool with 5/6lb carp fish

A little kid will be happy with any fish.

Look in angling times for fisheries neer you

How old is (s)he? If under 15 then (s)he probably won't be strong enough to
deal with them properly and won't enjoy it.

MUCH better to go to a small river where the current will take care of any
poor casts and a steady supply of small roach/dace will be well within
capabilities. Later a small rudd-infested stillwater would be worth a visit.
The young are far more interested in numbers than size.

If 8 or younger then aim for a two hour session.

8-10 three hours.

11-13 no more than five hours.

Once the child has a taste for it you can go for longer sessions or for two
sessions in a day with a non fishing break (away from the water) in between.

It's probably a mistake to make it too easy, let the first pounder be a
-big- -special- fish. Later the two pounder becomes the major prize. A
series of steadily increasing personal bests gives a much greater sense of
achievement.

Cheerio,

About two years ago I drove around to one of the tributaries of the Waikato
River east of Huntley. It drains one of the Waikato lakes. Three fit young
men were trying to pull in their 10/12 ft aluminium dinghy. It was too
heavy to pull up the ramp. It was full, nearly to the gunwales, with carp
weighing upto about 12 pounds. They had been shooting them with bows and
arrows! If you want carp fishing just come here and help youselves. Free.
Just don't leave the fish alive unless you want a $10,000 fine. A friend of
mine told me yesterday of a 40 pounder caught in gravel pond. Does anyone
want a nice large one stuffed and mounted?
