Outboard Question
Hey guys,
I have a quick question to post here, I have a choice of 2 motors. #1 2004 Yamaha VMAX 150 (Carb.) #2 2004 Yamaha VMAX 150 HPDI I am not sure which direction to go, The HPDI is about $1800 more, but since I am financing it my payment really wouldn't change that much, but what do I really get out of it. The Master Tech at the marina was very helpful, but I just wanted to get the opinions of some people I have met and trust :-) Thanks guys, Chris |

It gets WAY better mileage, both gas and oil. It runs smoother, will idle all day if necessary, and has better mid-range torque, so it performs better when climbing waves in really rough water. Only drawback is that it may prove a mile or two an hour slower in the top end. |

Man, what an incredible difference over my old carb motor, even when it was brand new! Thanks again to Steve Huber and others for talking me into paying extra for that motor. It was definitely worth the extra (which I was able to talk them down to a $1500 difference)!!! -- Andrew Kidd http://www.amiasoft.com/ - Software for the rest of us! http://www.rofb.net/ - ROFB Newsgroup Home |

Hey Chris I found this review on the 150HPDI. It is near the bottom after
the 300 review. They tested it on a perch jerker boat. ;-) (Lund) Don't know if it will help you any. Joe Z. http://www.bassandwalleyeboats.com/s..._page_176.html "Chris Rennert" wrote in message ... Andrew, that is where I am at, about $1800 difference. I am definitely
leaning towards teh HPDI, but we will see how financing comes out , which I will know tomorrow .... Thank you everyone for your input so far, and Joe Z , I read the article, thank you very much. Outboard Question
Hi Chris,
Rich was spot on. If you ever have to idle stumpfields, you will appreciate the fuel injection. Carbed engines don't like to idle when trimmed up. You have to stop, trim down and clean her out ever now and again. Kind of a pain really. Make a few 140 mile runs in tournaments and the fuel savings really starts to shine. Carlos |

Chris if its similar to my HO you'll get alot - including increased mileage
& decreased oil usage. WW -- http://www.warrenwolk.com/ http://www.tri-statebassmasters.com 2004 NJ B.A.S.S. Federation State Champions "Chris Rennert" wrote in message ... There's a reason that all cars and most outboards are fuel injected. If carbs were the way to go, fuel injection wouldn't be an option. Go for the HPDI and never look back. The increased efficiency, better economy and ease of starting are well worth the additional $. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

#1 2004 Yamaha VMAX 150 (Carb.) #2 2004 Yamaha VMAX 150 HPDI I got a 2004 225 HPDI last May and have been really happy with it. Everything posted here about them is true, great milage, low oil use, starts like a car and idles great. BUT, I have heard there are some water pressure problems - at least with the 225. I am watching mine carefully and trying to check with the dealer. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |
