This became an entirely different clave. The group decided early
on we were only going to fish for rising fish, imitate the hatch,
and not wade into the water ; taking the classical English
approach. Some of the less radical members of the clave expressed
doubts as to how effective these methods would be while fishing
rather large rivers for steel head that rarely come to the
surface and hardly ate flies. Another limiting factor was that
there is no hatch in the Rockies during the fall making our fishing
all the more challeging ! Fortunately there were some October
caddis fluttering about as the only other hatch were midges about
size 26-28 . Most of us opted to use the October Caddis, tho the

LOL

one of the greatest things about fly fishing is that it's a game where one
can choose to compete only with oneself AND make up the rules, too, thus
guaranteeing one's own success.

Only when someone makes the mistake of thinking that HIS rules should be
everyone's rules does the inherent beauty of the system get lost and lead to
bickering.

But, then, roff seems home to several people for whom the "bicker" IS the
reason for, not an intrusion into, this "fly fishing forum"

Thus, I fear your closing comment, quoted below, may prove to be too
optimistic g

"But the mood was exultant as the clave broke up on Sunday as we got
much accomplished and settled our political differences, once and for
all."

P.S. I think my rules might have been to swing a 28 midge pupa on a 7x
dropper, using a #6 lead barbell eyed Purple Peril as a top fly ... for
weight only .... any fish landed, photographed and released, on the "weight
fly" wouldn't be "counted" Fishing to match the hatch doesn't always limit
us to surface flies, despite what the damn purist lefties ( or are they the
righties ? ) say :-)

I can vouch for the bumber sticker- I saw it myself.

I believe John to be a gentleman, but I have to see a photo of this for
me to accept the bumper sticker. This would tilt the earth from what
I've come to expect at my age. Unless, there be a couple of elves
hiding near the river with mischief in their souls. Yes, it is becoming
clearer on the chain of events that may have occurred.

This is a Special Report from the Clave Broadcasting System:

This just in: I have received pictures from an unidentified source that
link RW to Bush. Again, I repeat that I have just received verification
from a reliable source that RW is voting for Bush.

This is Dan Rathernot, reporting live, CBS.

This just in: Rathernot's source is apparently a shawdowy organization
with ties to the Idaho National Guard, the North Carolina Bar
Association, the Illinois chapter of The Society of Yellowstone Experts,
and Seagrams. Internet blogsters are speculating that since CBS' copies
of the pictures have a watermark, "THIS COPY OF PHOTOSHOP STOLEN FROM
KINKO'S," they are probably fakes. But what they cannot explain is why
the original photographs were taken with a 35mm and in black and white.
Further tests have also revealed traces of vodka, Budweiser, an
unpretentious red wine, and Viagra on the items.

Given the ties to the NC Bar, John Edwards was contacted for comment.
"Well, gol-lee-jeepers!," replied Edwards, "John Kerry and I have a
plan..." In the interest of fair and balanced news, Dick Cheney was
also contacted for comment. However, the reporter sent to get a comment
from Cheney has not been seen since.

Looks as though, all in all, a very blood-thirsty bunch. Why didn't
you just use dynamite? Should have added the proviso that 'any fish
cast to, must be swiming upstream tail first.

Now that s an idea we could use for next year ! We were all such
accomplished anglers that we felt that catching 100 s of fish a day
( each) takes the sport out of fishing, so some new guidelines were
in order.
