Anti-reverse fly reel for left and right hand use

Hi,

It so happens that my wife is right handed and I am left handed. I
have noticed that almost all anti-revers fly reels such as Billy Pate
and Abel a/r models can't be switched from right to left hand use.

Does anybody know of an a/r fly reel that can easily be switched from
right to left hand use? Any information would be appreciated.

Thomas

I have a couple of Okumas that are easy to switch over. You pull the one-way
roller bearing and flip it over. The reel comes with a tool for the purpose.
There are a few other's, maybe made by Okuma, that have a nearly identical
design (Pflueger Trion, Cabela's Prestige and others). The Integrity model
is a large arbor design, in aluminum, the Sierra is standard spool in
aluminum, and the Magnitude is standard spool or large arbor in magnesium
(not for salt water!) I have one Sierra and one Integrity. Both are in their
first season, but so far, both have been flawless.

Not many trout fishermen I know use a/r reels-- not much knuckle-busting
going on. Would your wife be happy enough if you bought her a regular old
reel of her very own? Keep in mind that even if you found an a/r reel that
changed easily, you'd still need separate spools, and I bet they don't come
cheap on an a/r reel.

Sorry I can't be of real help.
