Releasing a shark from a beach

Hi all,
Suppose I were to beach a 250lb shark, how do I release the hook from
his mouse without endangering myself?
This is supposing that I have used something like Penn 80 and quickly
have beached him without tiring him out.

Cheers

It depends on how deep the hook is, if it is a deep set hook? just cut
the leader, if your scared? just cut the leader, if you don't have 1
foot long needle nose pliers? and can't sit behind his fin to hold him
down? just cut the leader

If you don't want to endanger yourself in any way,,, JUST CUT THE LEADER

Me , hell I'll jump on that bad boy and get my hook back, this
artificial arm works real good for doing that ,,,,, now :-)

The thought of "quickly beaching" a 250 pound shark is amusing.

That's what I was thinking. I just watched an ESPN shark fishing
tournement where the fights were in the hours. After 4 hours of
fighting, one fisherman could not continue and another had to take
over. Maybe if we look on the shark forum, under the subject "How to
remove a Penn rod" we'll find a shark looking for a way to remove a rod
and reel from an already beached human LOL.

Have fun and good luck!

So true, regardless off the reel size

It's also amusing thinking you can tire one out so it can't make a twist
and snap into one's hand or arm

For real,, I sit behind the fin, and grab the snout, pulling it back and
use 1 foot long pliers to remove the hook. On real big sharks I use a
gaff in the mouth, remove the hook then flip the gaff out.

You can do a lot more from the beach, than on a slick boat deck, the
sand does retard their head somewhat.. I recommend novices just cut the
leader

Releasing a shark from a beach

As yet I haven't had the experience of the said adventure.
The other day I caught a shark from the beach and it was about twenty five
pounds. And
the thought occurred to me what would I do if much bigger shark was caught.
Then I read somewhere that in order to release a fish in general, you ought
not to play it too long, otherwise the fish will
not revive; hence the article's recommended use of heavier tackle than
lighter tackle.
Thus penn 80 would result in 'quicker' release than penn 50. That's what I
meant when I was pipe-dreaming about 250lb shark.
But TC may be right, I may tire out myself before him with whatever tackle I
use----

By the way, someone told me that it's not derigeur for a fisherman to pass
on his rod to another fisherman---- that when you
cannot handle a fish you ought to admit defeat and release him right
away----
My friends' opinions were devided on this but I rather agree with it.

Cheers.
