Having great luck lately...

I've posted here a few times but haven't in a while.
Anyways, I have a pond that a neighbor and I had stocked ourselves
with catches from another pond. The largest bass (largemouth) we had
ever put in there was probably 1.5 - 2 lbs. Nothing really big.
I've never had too much success in the pond over the past couple of
years since stocking it. Occasionally I would hook one but it seemed
like they were few and far between.
I went down to the pond this past saturday with my trusty Shimano
Curado and a sample pack of Berkley Gulp bait (someone had posted a
link to the free sample here about a year ago).
Anyways, I put on a plastic worm and threw 'er out and reeled 'er back
in several times. I decided to try a different tactic and let the worm
fall to the bottom (only a couple feet deep) and bring it in about a
foot, let it fall, repeat.
I got a strike fairly quickly and brought in a new personal best. 5lbs
on the dot and 19" long (measuring from the top lip to tail - from the
bottom lip to tail it was 20").
I didn't fish the rest of the day but went down to the pond today.
I snagged one - it got away. Got another bite, it jumped in the air
and shook my hook loose. Got another one - and reeled this one in. It
MIGHT have been the same one as saturday 'cuz he was 5lbs on the nose.
Back into the pond for another day.
So, I just went out there again and got another good
bite...unfortunately, this one shook my hook loose after it jumped a
foot out of the water.

So, question is - is it just that time of year?
The temperature is great here in North Georgia - high 70's - but it's
been a little overcast (it was actually raining today when I got that
last bite).
Is this prime fishing time or has my pond just finally started
producing good sport fish?
I've never fed the fish on a consistent basis but I also wonder if
maybe now that the frogs are gone, do they just have nothing to eat?

Any ideas appreciated.

This is a fantastic time to be fishing in Georgia. Water temps are falling and
bass are feeding up for the coming cold. My clubs have been having good
success in several lakes. Go every chance you get between now and Christmas -
for lots of good bass. But don't stop then - my first two 8 pound bass came in
January and my biggest, at 9-7, came in early February.
