Yabbies and Shrimp

Hi all,
Just wanted to get clarification on a couple of thing regarding yabbie
and shrimp collection in the Murray River.
From what I understand from the NSW Fisheries web site is that Yabbie
traps are basically banned East of the Newell Highway and anywhere on
the Murray upstream of the Echuca road bridge (and a couple of other
spots), and Yabbie traps are allowed east of the Newell Highway as
long as the have the entry restriction on them.
Have I read this right?
There is no mention on restrictions on collection of fresh water
shrimp and I assume ( not always a good idea) that there are none.

Also what qualifys as a Yabby and a Shrimp trap, I have found
references to shrimp traps but nothing on dimensions such as net size,
entry size, and overall trap size. Does anyone have any info on where
to get traps or how to make them?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

There's a pdf file you can download from Fisheries. It can be found at the
following link and is called New South Wales Freshwater Fishing Guide
2003/2004. It provides different styles of Yabby nets, with pictures,
dimensions, restrictions and so forth.

Cheers

Fill,
Thanks for the reply. That is what I was after.
They had one of those council clean up days here the other day so I
went and collected some bike rims (much to my wifes disgust) and have
turned them into hoop nets. I will have a go at a bait trap soon.

Thanks
Dave
