Help with Line for Chub

I have been a Match angler for years and just about give it up due to
my age 68. I have been doing some Chub fishing on the Gt.Ouse nr
Buckingham, I am using a John Wilson Avon/Quiver system which is rate
at 3lb to 6lb reel line, I am using Silstar Match Team Nylon 5.5lb the
problem I am having is I keep breaking off, I have had Chub to 4lb 6oz
on this line but I am not happy with the line. So what I need to know
is what make of line is best and what B/S should I use and should I
use a hook length (if so what B/S) or direct.

Help with Line for Chub

goff i use a similar setup for chubb 5lb maxima chameleon and a 4.4lb
flurocrystal hooklength. due to no stretch in the hooklength i always set
the clutch[ and because of the carp in my local river even this time of
year] also i check new line with scales and its amazing how much over or
under the stated test they are!

Is this on the strike?

Where are the breaks - at the hook or up the line?

....and are you sure these are chub break-offs and not jacks grabbing and
biting off larger baits/lures?

I generally use the cheapest bulk line in the shop and depending on
conditions at this time of year it's 4 - 6lb bs straight through.

Cheerio,
