Folks...i'm getting back into fishing after a lot of years away.....as a
result i have some catching up to do.

Thus...a couple of questions. I'd appreciate your some advice on lines.

In looking at Fireline and Spiderwire as options for my spinning
rods.....it's kind of hard to guess what down-sides there may be. In my
distant past, i've used only mono.

How about a couple of ideas about strengths and weaknesses of these two
lines for the average spin fisherman.

In the FAQ on superlines it says:

"Another thing that must be done is make sure that the line is wound on the
spool tightly, much tighter than mono. If this isn't done, the line will
"cut" down into itself and cause problems. I solve this by either having
someone hold the bulk spool tightly while I wind the line on or run the line
through a folded towel, clamped in a vice. This insures that the line is
wound on tightly."

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you do about all the winding on after
casts? Or it matter for the last 50 yards more or less?

If I notice the line getting loose and clumped up, I'll put on the largest
lipped, deep diving crankbait I have, freespool the loose line off as I
motor away. Then, once I'm back into hard packed line, stop the boat and
reel in the lure. This will put the line back on nice and tight.

I have to stop the boat because most of the lakes in my area don't allow
trolling.
