Review of the San Mateo ISE
 

The San Mateo's ISE was outstanding, of course everything you could think of
in tackle, boats, fishing/hunting getaways, even the food was good. The
floor plan was well laid out. The fly-casting demonstrations were also
great. What I enjoyed most, is that you can try different fly rods at the
outdoor casting pond. Vendors trust and encourage you to take the rod out
and cast it. I was surprised that each rod loads different even between the
same rod make and weight. I know for sure now, I would never purchase a rod
without casting it first. I was also impressed with the Spey rods in their
accuracy, distance, and ease of effort in casting. Master casters were on
hand for instructional help and made everyone feel comfortable at all
levels.

I finally got to meet Steve Rajeff, one of the worlds greatest fly-casters.
Not only is he knowledgeable, but patient, humble, and willing to share his
expertise with you.

My 1/50$:

Pretty much the same presentations and demos as the last few years. As you
mention, the best about the
show is to try out as many rods as you can get away with. However even with the
expanded pond, its almost
impossible to try a twohander.

I haven't been to one of these show for over 20 years, when my boss who is
now retired and fishing somewhere in northern CA. took me. I remember him
saying on that Friday; "we're leaving at 11am today!" Didn't argue with
that.
So you managed to get in the pic? I'm laughing, what are the odds on
that...You'll have to point yourself out. All I purchased was a $4.00
spring tweezers for my flies.
This year we're planning on doing the Trinity trip in Oct. for steelies,
and maybe the Klamath for the salmon run before Trinity. I should have my
spey rod by then. Next year is Alaska.

I didnt get anything up there at all. I went to see Rajeff (even though Ive run
into him a few time in Golden Gate) and the presentations by Lawson (should
have brought his book and get it signed) and Tom White.

Im in SJ.

There's a monthly meeting 2nd wed of the month, i.e. this week. People are
welcome to come by and
check it out. The meeting starts at 7pm at the Senior Citizens centor in
San Jose on Saratoga/Payne.

Cool,
I just may join SJ. Tony Yap used to give me lessons at the perc ponds
years ago. I also know Jo from Orvis, and Andy from SJ Fly Shop. Just
getting back into the hobby after many years of other interest. One thing
good about fly-fishing, it's one of the few sports where age doesn't creep
up on you so fast.

with a pontoon boat, and possibly, a rod and reel outfit.

Brians,
my co-worker spent over $4,000, which includes two hunting and one fishing
trip. My other co-worker spent over $200., Yea, those Pontoon Boats were
tempting, I liked the one with the canopy and the drink holder.
