Bass boat ?
I want to purchase a bassboat for lake fishing in North Carolina. I'm
looking at a 2002 Javelin 170 with a 90hp Yamaha engine. If anyone has experience with Javelin boats I would love to hear opinions , advice, etc... Thanks, Keith |

Thanks, Keith Can't comment on owning or using a Javelin, but I see them on NC lakes all the time, so they must be "ok" at the very least. I definitely like Yamaha ouboards, and a 3 y/o 90 HP one, if it has been taken care of, should be an excellent OB for a 17 footer (provided that 170 model means roughly 17'). I use an aluminum G3 with a Yamaha 60 on it, that is 17.5', and while it is no speed demon, it is plenty of boat for all but the roughest of waters. I've even fished at the coast with it, albeit it in the backwaters, for inland flounder, and redfish, with no problems (more cleanup and engine flushing required, but no problems, I also recommend a galvanized trailer if you wish to go sal****er boating at all. My galv. trailor has saved me a ton of heartache IMO.) Which lakes are you talking about going out on? I am a regular on the likes of Jordan, Falls and Shearon Harris (I live within 30 minutes of ramps on both Jordan and Harris). Also occasionally get up to Kerr Lake (Buggs Island), and over to Norman and Wiley on occcasion, as well as High Rock and Tillary at least once a year when I have the time. But those are all roughly 3 each hours from my house, so I hang in pretty close to Raleigh for the most part, and make trips to those distant lakes overnighters when I can. Have you bass fished here prior to now and just getting your own boat? Or are the boat and the fishing "new" to you? I'd be glad to help you out anyway I can, I just don't have anything to offer you in regards to the Javelin boat brand. |
