By the way (semi-OT); have there been any 'Homeland Security Alerts' since
the election? Are we at Code Orange or anything? Any more announcements
that 'the danger is elevated, although we have no specific information
about any specific threats on any specific targets by any specific people
at any specific time'?

--riverman

Nah, they scrapped that ridiculous non-alert system when they scrapped
Tom-the signal light-Ridge, I think?

Of course, when we invade Iran, they need so other sort of real alert
system!

If its true that this entire homeland alert thing (which so dominated
everything before the election) has stopped, then HOW can people not see
that it was all just a ruse to scare them?? What other explanation is
there? And again, did they ever attribute the Anthrax scare to anyone? I
think, if we could ever show that the Homeland Alert thing was all a
construction, thats grounds for impeachment.

Oh, boy! Another conspiracy theory! These are really amusing, so keep up
the good work. ;-)

Germany, 1941.

"Gunther, I hear that Der Fuhrer is sendin' Jews off to extermination
camps?"

"'Oh, boy! [Heinrich], Another conspiracy theory! [That's is] really
amusing, so keep up
the good work. ;-)'"

Nah, as we all know, history never repeats itself.

That it was just a stupid idea?

Hmm, when did they stop, and when did Tom Ridge head off? Strange that it
took until just after the election before folks decided it was a stupid
idea. Methinks it served its purpose quite well.

They are still using it, but they just decided that its not worth telling
the general public on every TV network, like they did before the election.

Yeah, I found that too. Are they still making announcements on TV? I suppose
the signs are still up on the Beltway....Frank? Call me a consipiracy
theorist (well, Tim already has, true) but it sure seems like those
announcements dominated the news right up until the elections, then suddenly
stopped. It also seemed like whenever there was a hot issue in the political
arena, it was suddenly followed by a heightened alert. I saw that strategy
occuring in Israel regularly when I was there...something would happen like
an incursion into Jenin, there would be a huge public outcry, then suddly
there would be some news from somewhere else. People would just start to get
worked up about that, then there would be another incursion into the West
Bank to get folks riled up. Meanwhile, Jenin got buried deeper and deeper in
the pile and forgotten.

Aww, I'll let it go before I get a stigma. They obviously worked, one way or
another.
