Tube Flies

I was thinking about trying to tie up some tube flies for bass but I have
never tied a tube fly. Does anybody know any good web sites / recipes for
tube flies. Or any advice on tying tube flies? My thinking is I can tie
something big and ugly for bass and keep the weight down. What you think?
( I have a greenbutt skunk tube fly that a friend gave me. This is the
extent of my knowledge of tying tube flies.)

I have been into tube flies for a while and I recommend this book: Tube
Flies: A Tying, Fishing & Historical Guide. It is okay and, IMO, worth the
money. A google search will reveal plenty of fly patterns for you to try.
I own a Renzetti Tube Fly vise, but you can get one of those add on vises
for tube flies very cheaply. Here is a source for the inexpensive add on
tube vise:

For the tubes use those little sticks(tubes) with cotton wool buds on
each end. Cut off the cotton wool and you have you tubes. "Burn" the
ends over a bit to form a rolled edge. Tie the fly body on the tube by
placing the tube on a darning needle which is then held in the vice
(vise)

No not over dress this type of fly - a sparse hair wing works best.

How cheap can you get ? :-)

Wow. Thank you. That was more than I expected. I really appreciate the help.
I have been wanting to try tying tube flies for a while, but wasn't sure of
some things. I was going to just try and "wing it", This is a big help.
Thanks again.
