Racoon Dog hair

Hi,

I just got a racoon dog from my neighbor who is hunting these.
I am going to test the hair for flytying. Any ideas?

This animal originates from Russia and has been spreading
wide in Finland.

Never heard of it. Does it chase itself up trees?

Hey Osmo!
I know english isn't your first language (but its still a lot better than my
Dutch), but your post is pretty funny! :-)

I'm not at all sure if you're saying the RACCOON orginates from Russia, or
the DOG does. And most of all, are you going to test the RACCOON hair for
flys, or the DOG hair? I would assume you mean the raccoon, but the title
sounds like you mean the dog.

Is this some kind of cross between a 'coon and a porcupine?

Funny! I was thinking a cross between Rocky Raccoon and a dog.
(Probably look like my house ruint' beagle).

Yeah! This is excatly the species I was talking about! I have seen two
names for it:
racoon dog and raccoon dog. It is one of the predators living here in
Finland.

More information: http://www.canids.org/SPPACCTS/raccoond.htm

The hair is in excellent condition at this time of the year, very tight.
Dark colored grey/brownish.

I have not skinned the creature yet but I am going to do it soon.
So, I will have the whole fur available for flytying.

Osmo
