Glued on rod guides

I learned yesterday that many rod manufactures glue on rod guides, they
do not use thread at all.. I didn't believe it first but I examined a
CastAway baitcasting rod and sure enough no thread..you can tell if it's
glued on by looking at the guide, it looks perfect...I don't think glued
on guides are bad but I thought all guides were wrapped.

I have noticed glued on guides on one or two of my rods also.

I understand some of the high dollar rods have glued on guides, St Croix
uses thread.. I would like to know how the glued on process is done.

I looked at a rod recently and it appeared that the guides were put on
using "heat shrink" tubing. I'd guess that would be OK if they work OK.

Hmmmm.... maybe a little heat shrink to hold it in place then coat it with
epoxy. It would be solid at that point.

I have come to the conclusion that glued on guides don't exist..I just
could not see the thread on a finished rod...

If you use white silk thread to wrap the rod and put the epoxy finish on
with no Color Preserver you'll see right through the thread to the guide
below. Also has been done with 8 lb Fluorocarbon. Old school from the bamboo
days or later before they had color preservers that didn't turn the thread
opaque.
