newsgroup server reform
Well, it looks like individual.net pulled their free service as
threatened. Has anyone found a replacement free news server? --riverman |

@l41g2000cwc.googlegroups.com: Well, it looks like individual.net pulled their free service as threatened. Has anyone found a replacement free news server? --riverman I'm paying the 10 Euros a year for individual.net. They make it easy (if you hit the button for English!!), its a reasonable rate for a dependable service. I think its worth it. Scott |

Always looking for a handout, eh? ;-) I switched to Supernews (for other reasons), but it'll cost you a whopping $4.95 a month, without binaries. Not a bad deal for access to this encylopedia of knowledge and class we call roff. -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

My first ever transaction in Euros! :) Wolfgang um......does anyone know what i paid in real money? :( |
I looked at their site just now, and it seems like its a mission to pay
them! Something about some european account and a bank transfer... I don't mind the rate, but I guess I have to go back and see how to pay them. OTOH, with this instantaneous access via google, this might be something to consider! I just posted the message 5 minutes ago, and already got replies! --riverman |
Ugh. Don't tell me that, until this morning, you could do the
transaction online! I'm in the process of instructing my bank to wire 10 Euros (about $14), but the transfer fee is more than twice that amount! --riverman (smart businessmans are us) |

Google is a very efficient enterprise. It looks like they may be serious about Usenet. OTOH, once Google effectively owns the Internet, which I believe is their goal, you might find that they'll start charging you. (If I held a stake in Supernews or some similar Usenet service, I'd sell it immediately.) -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

O.k., I won't tell you that. :) But, of course, I can't stop Scott or anyone else from doing so. :( I'm in the process of instructing my bank to wire 10 Euros (about $14), but the transfer fee is more than twice that amount! $14?! Whew! Wolfgang who was beginning to think maybe he'd have to get a part time job. |

If Google would offer a free Usenet server instead of their web-based service that would solve your spell-check problem. Unfortunately, you would almost certainly start seeing advertisements in each post. In a Fortenberry post that would either be an ad for cheap, ****ty beer or extremely expensive fly rods. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |
