Went for a nice swim today or...

....Stupid Human Tricks.

Wasn't my plan to go for a swim, but...

I was out running the little jon baot and checking it out to make sure
everything was right. I found that I had forgoten to put the hose clamp
back on the livewell fill pump. No big deal. I also took advantage of
having the boat off the trailer to fix a loose fender.

When I came in from making a couple high speed (speed is relative, but I hit
35 with it for the first time ever) runs around Mittry lake I put her up on
the beach next to the launch ramp. When I climbed out I did like I always
do and made sure to lift the bow and pull it further up on the bank so it
wouldn't drift off.

While I was repairing the trailer fender a couple guys launched their boat.
One went to park their truck while the other made a couple high speed laps
close to shore. I didn't think much about it until I looked up to take a
hose clamp over to the boat for that loose hose. Dang. Nobody around and
there goes my boat. Off I went. After schucking my belt, pager, cell
phone, wallet etc... I dove in and went after it. I caught up with it
20-30 yards out and dragged it back into shore. Just as I was pulling it
back up on the beach the wind picked up. Talk about cutting it close. If
that wind had kicked up a few minutes earlier I would have had to let it
carry me to the far shore. It was a nice swim. Water temp averaged 69.5
deg. Air temp was a little cool for a swim with the front that came through
last night, but not bad.

There aren't any no wake bouys around the ramp at Mittry Lake, but I still
would have appreciated them not washing waves up on the beach were I had
pulled the boat up. Oh, well. I didn't even have an excuse for not tying
it up. I already had a rope on the front, and there was plenty of stuff I
could have thrown it over.
