Anyone imported a rod from US. What happened re VAT?

My experience was poor, rod clearef the us immediately but Post Office took
over, spent 3 weeks in their hands and eventually i get a post card saying
import duty payable, plus habdling charge. I had bought a secondhand Sage
value $400 and paid £60 to get it off the PO!
Get a cheap flight, pick it up in person and enjoy a short break int he us.
Tell customs you had it when you went over, that's what i did coming back in
February. Good luck, the savings are staggering!
