Emerald Isle, land of the "no parking" sign. The public may own the
beach between mean low tide mark and mean high tide mark, but you

can't
use it if you can't get there.

Interesting note about the Outer Banks: Dare County recently went
through their property tax revaluation. The *average* revaluation (as

reported in the Outer Banks Sentinel) was 195%. Many long-time

residents
are selling out and moving elsewhere.

Houses that rented for $600-$800 a week a few years ago now rent for
$3,500-$5,000 a week.

And the Dare County commissioners recently approved a local sales tax

hike making Dare the most-taxed county in NC (according to the N&O).

And
speaking of taxes, don't forget that new salt-water fishing license.
Yep, even you day visitors will have to pony up a few bucks to keep

the
pork barrel rolling in Raleigh.

Between the traffic and the high cost of living, it's no longer a

quaint
island town.

Meanwhile, back in the Triangle, our plantation system of government
ensures that Marc Basnight (D-Dare) will continue to pump tax monies
into Dare for bridges, roads, etc., in order to cater to the tourism
industry.

NC - I do believe our state motto should be "We can't bend over fast
enough."

No one from NC goes there anymore. It's all Virginians.

I can never get the appropriate amount of bananas at the local grocer.

When I was stationed in Virginia about 13 years ago, I used to fish at
Waves and Buxton after hitting Jeanettes Pier first...
BTW, I heard Jeanettes Pier was destroyed by hurricanes. Is that true?
I remember it being one of the most warped piers around.
