Where should I fish in the river?

Hello,

Summertime is here and the river that I live 5mi from has dropped to its low
level again, revealing all the glorious sandbars that my family and I take
to boat to for our own private beach. Just choose one!

I would like to try some cat fishing while I'm there, but am not real sure
where to put the line. The river is the Neches river in Evadale, Tx
(Southeast Texas). What most people in the area do is place traut lines with
various baits and just run their lines for cats. This doesnt really interest
me too much, I'd like to pole fish.

Here is what I am wondering.... usually the sandbar extends out into the
water 20ft or so before you can see the current really moving... which is
where it gets deeper. When putting my line out there... should I put the
bait in the slower moving water which is not as deep or in the fast moving
water where it is deep?

I fish this creek alot here in GA that feeds into the chatahoochi river. I
always fish behind things that break the current .Log jams, bridge pileings,
rocks etc. I would fish behind the sandbar in the deeper water. I have good
luck fishing this way. I will use bream for bait since they are present in
the creek, shrimp works well too.
