Government Cats?

So I am out fishing at 5:30 this morning for the first time at a lake I
havent fished before and caught a Catfish that weighed about a pound and a
half that had a large knot on its head. I thought I caught a deformed fish
until I caught 2 more. Never saw a fish like that so asked someone what type
of catfish it was. I was told back in the 80's here in Mississippi they had
a parasite that killed a lot of the catfish in these small ponds and lakes,
so the Government created a hybrid that was immune to the parasite and
offered them for free to anyone who wanted to restock their lake or pond.
So, I have a question. Anyone ever heard of these Government Cats (Thats
what he says they are called) and if so what are they a hybrid of?
