Would you do it?
Well after many discussions, I;m going to try something new.
A friend of mine manages a local resort restaurant up here. It has a small pond/lake. The owner is turning it into a pay to fish bass spot. Here's the deal offered. Large space/store that needs about $1,000 worth of sheet rock. I fix it up, I get free rent for a year. I manage the pay-to-fish. He gets the pay fees, and Price per pound, but also stocks the fish. I get rod rentals, paddle boat rentals, bait and tackle, pictures/shirts etc etc. This is not a change your whole life thing, more of a part time hobby, teach some kids/adults to fish. Will not involve more that 1 weekend day per week and nothing during the week. Just make sure the tackle and bait is available, resort employees will manage during the week at no cost to me. Sounds like fun huh? Idea's? Suggestions? |

Sounds like fun huh? Idea's? Suggestions? Ever run a business before? Do some math. Sit down and think of everythig that can go wrong and every expense you can come up with. Add it all up and double it. If it still sounds like fun go for it. Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com |

Ever run a business before? Actually yes, years ago in NYC so i'm familiar. My current job responsibilities have tripled and it's worse than running a business cause all I draw is a salary. |

My current job responsibilities have tripled and it's worse than running a business cause all I draw is a salary. Been a while has it. You forget about worrying about being able to pay everybody else, and hoping there is something left over for yourself. You forget about working 16 hour days so you can fix employees mess ups for free and then do two other jobs so you have the money to pay them for the time they spent not doing the job? Seriously. I'ld have to look at the profit potential and the possibility of losing the deal if your "buddy" sees you making too much money out of it. Partnerships are always tough. Personally I prefer to give my "friends" my business advice for free and keep them as friends instead. Also, retail is tough. I grew up in a country general store, and managed a hardware store for my dad when I was in my late teens. I am intimately acquainted with it, and I hate it. I barely manage in the people department as a contractor. My own failing of course. I can't imagine going back into a retail store front business and having no choice about who I have to deal with everyday. Some people love it and thrive on it. Sounds like you may have the skills if you take the time to think it through, but honestly only you can determine if you will be happy doing it. |
Aren't you already teaching little kids how to fish? Why not make some money
at it in the process? It aint like loosing a Saturday is going to hurt your fishing time. Most of the posts I see, you fish during the weekday mornings. Right? If you feel good about it... do it! Are you going to do the sheetrock work yourself? "alwaysfishking" wrote in message ... Well after many discussions, I;m going to try something new. No! Don't loose a friend. Help him out but make sure it's his risk/his
reward. Good luck! John "alwaysfishking" wrote in message ... Well after many discussions, I;m going to try something new. A friend of mine manages a local resort restaurant up here. Will you be a manager or a managing partner? The difference is huge
when it comes to liability. In either case you should make sure there is plenty of insurance coverage. alwaysfishking wrote: Well after many discussions, I;m going to try something new. I'll be doing the work on the place with my buddy, we'll split the cost,
which is minimal, and the familys are willing to help out, this is more of a fun thing then a devote everything to it type thing, teaching people to catch fish especially the younger ones is something I could do all day every day, nothing better that a smile from a little kid that just caught a fish. This I know well. If I can make some worm money in the process... great... and if it turns into something bigger...even better "Charles B. Summers" wrote in message ...
