Low Oil Warning signal
I have a oil injection system on the 150 merc. I just put two gallons of oil
in. It's working, but every season for some reason this darn thing goes off and won't quit. The oil tank has two ports, one to pour oil in and one where it's sucked up. I don't see any other wires. I want to disconnect or try to find out where the little ballast thang is so I can dislodge it or somthing. You all know I"m not very mechanical. . . so any advice is appreciated. Hope there's enough info here. thanks in advance guys an gals. -- God Bless America Josh The Bad Bear |

There may also be a sensor on the main tank, but i doubt it. You will get oil alarms if the cap isn't on tight also. I'ld check that since you just filled it. -- Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

When you get the oil level so low that the alarm comes on, the motor has been taking oil from the reservoir mounted under the cowl. What you do now is remove the outboard cowl, trim the motor so that it's level and fill that little tank on the motor. Voila', problem solved. I wouldn't disconnect anything if I were you. You might regret it. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

While it wasn't an ideal solution, when the dabburn thing is blaring at you nonstop...it seemed like a sensible solution at the time...: BTW, I think the problem was electrical...ie. bad horn. -- Dwayne E. Hit it so hard it broke the 2 lower mounting brackets on the motor. Got that fixed, but did not know about the horn. A few weeks later I was running on Oconee and the motor kinda bogged down. That is when I found the horn did not work and there was no oil in the reservoir. Cost me $2200 -- ÐÏࡱá |

I sure wouldn't disconnect the horn. I would find the problem. A bad horn is not going to go off because it is bad. If anything it is more likely to just not work when you need it. The horn makes noise when and only when it has a good connection to ground and to power. You could have had some wires damaged, but not the horn. Worse if you have a wire shorting out and causing hte horn to go off you could be looking to have other problems with your wiring. Get thee to a shop. -- Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

However, its always been my thought process that some problems don't have to be fixed immediately and can be put off until after the fish ain't biting... And one thing I really hate working on in a boat is wire/electrical connections. Remember the line from the Kirk Douglas western: "I don't like wire!" -- Dwayne E. According to my Merc Manual a continuous oil warning sound maybe caused by a
faulty warning module. It lists the corrective action as: 1. Check the module's connection wires. 2. Replace the module. Or: Defective low oil sensor located in the fill cap of engine oil reservoir. I would not just disconnect it--head to a Merc Dealer and have it checked. When the engine is running, the module continuously monitors the rotation of the drive system for the oil injection pump by picking up pulses from the motion sensor. If the drive system becomes inoperative, the module will sound the warning horn. If the oil drops in the engine oil reservoir, the low oil float sensor will signal the module to sound the warning horn. "Joshuall" wrote in message ... I have a oil injection system on the 150 merc.
