Skunked

Well it happened again, just like last year I got skunked in the open
memorial day tourney. I heard the winners caught their fish all by sight
fishing. I only saw a few fish but couldn't get them to bite. Whats the
best technique for catching fish holding on beds? I have another
tournament wed. night and I'm sure they will be on beds. Oh! I'm in s/w
lower michigan.

Locate a bunch of fish the day before and then go back and throw to them
from your max distance blind. My ABA aluminum partner preferred a fluke for
this. I did nearly as well with a wacky senko.

I don't bed fish often, but when I do I've found that I do well with either
a lightly weighted Texas Rigged Lizard or Craw. It helps too to use a light
colored lure so that you can see when they pick it up. Often times, they'll
do it so quickly that you don't feel the take.

Unless your eyes are REALLY GOOD look for pre or postspawn bass near bedding
areas. Tubes are probably the best all-around bait to throw on beds. It's
more the action than the bait, as you often need to irritate the bedders
into biting.

There is no better way to put that action into a lure than the Wiggle
Rig, plus it "stays" in the bed until the fish tries to take it out, if
you miss that, the wiggle rig automaticly snaps the lure back into the
bed, you don't have to cast it again.

You just vary the action until the bass strikes it, it takes a little
practice, but you can get any action you want out of a lure sitting in
one spot.

WE have not tried the "every species rig and lure" in a "bass" bed yet,
but it should work, it works EVERYWHERE ELSE ! Blue gills hit it
instantly on their beds, but they hit anything on bed anyway.

Thanks Warren, I was just headed out the door to stock up on "rubber
bands", Helicopter lures and Flying Lures....His unbiased product
evaluations are priceless.

Rodney, maybe I am missing something, but I have never seen your pitch
work here. I have to give you credit, it doesn't look like you are
going to give up as long as Warren keeps posting something.
I walked around my tournament and asked everyone if they use the
boomerang, I am guessing they wanted to keep it a secret, because they
all looked at me like I was an idiot, and said they had no idea what the
hell I was talking about. So the secret is still safe among the anglers
here in Wisconsin.
