OT Enjoy yourself
It's later than you think.
Damn but it's been a bad week to be a first cousin of the Fortenberry/Hammerstrands. One of my dad's brothers lost his 41 year old daughter Kelli last week. The cops in Phoenix are calling it suicide. Kristine's first cousin finally succumbed at age 44 to the cancer she's been battling for two years. Kristine and her mom are on their way back to Chambana today from the funeral in Janesville, Wisconsin when my mom calls with the news that my dad's youngest brother's son, my cousin Brian, is all but dead in an Alabama hospital this afternoon. He was in a car wreck last night and as soon as they get all their ducks in a row for organ harvesting he'll be dead, probably later on today. I'm off to Guntersville, Alabama ... again. What a ****ed up week. Like the Subject: says ... -- Ken Fortenberry |

I didn't know my cousins all that well, and Kristine's not at all. But the deaths of three relatively young adults, 44, 41 and Brian can't be 30 yet, all within such a short period kinda makes me get all circumspect and ****. So I'm shuffling and rearranging and waiting to hear the final news. There may be a stop in Graham County on my way home from the funeral. Fly fishing is good for what ails ya. ;-) -- Ken Fortenberry |

I've found the main saving grace in a mess like that (I call them times of contagious death) is that it's so overwhelming that I get pretty numb about it. Luckily I've only had 3 bouts of it so far in my lifetime and the first one was all people I'd not seen for some time or been really close to at any time. Also most of mine, except the last, stretched over a couple of months. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. http://www.visi.com/~cyli email: lid (strip the .invalid to email) |
