building a fly rod...

I am thinking of building a 2 wt fly rod. Does anyone have any comments
about the kits that Hook and hackle have? Also are there any other sites
that sell kits for fly rods? Thanks in advance for the great advice that I
know will be forthcoming.

Ed,
I dunno about advice but:
My experience has always been good with hookhack on items other than fly rod
kits mainly because I have purchased my rod components from other resources.
However, I would purchase a rod kit from hookhack without hesitation and
have considered doing so very recently. The main thing to consider is what
components the kit contains - type of blank, type of reel seat, insert, hook
keeper, stripper guide, snake guides, tip top, wrapping thread, epoxy, etc.
If you build a rod, make sure you build what you wish to have as your end
product. Sometimes it is worth purchasing the kit along with any other
"upgrades" you want incorporated into your rod.

Where are you located? It would be good, depending on your rod building
experience, to locate a local person who builds rods. Chances are a local
fly shop or club will be able to help you locate an experienced rod builder.
We meet every Wednesday night locally to build, help build, or give
instruction to folks wanting to build a rod at Norm Goheen's
shop/office/garage. Alot of other fly fishing subjects are often discussed
as well... along with a few brews.

For what its worth, good rod building to you!
Guy

I recently ordered and just received two of Hook&Hackle's XT51 kits -- a
3wt and a 5wt. They're 40% off on closeout. Someone I know (a very
experienced fisherman) who built one said they're very good. They're
sure cheap right now.

Hook&Hackle is a reputable operation.

I've bought many things from "Lewis and Clark". They are a good outfit.
