King Mackerel Bait?
Hi, As A newbie to king mackerel Shore Fishing, what would be the best bait,
also what would be the best way to present the bait on a single treble hook? TIA |
I have never heard of any caught from shore but that doesn't mean it
can't happen. I did read about some babies caught from a 1000' fishing pier. TIA Live pogies, through the lip of the bait. If no live bait, dead cigar minnows. Not often caught from shore. |

Guys with boats troll for kingfish anywhere from 100' to a quarter mile off the beach there, from St. Augustine inlet to the fishing pier, and they catch them when they are running. Along with the occasional tarpon. There are some really strong surfcaster who can get a bait out there, along with a spiked sinker. But it doesn't happen often. I have read many articles indicating thebest ways to catch king makerel from shore, but no way im a super caster so bit worried now, hehe, if i cant catch king makerel, what is a common catch from carribean shore, beach casting and spinning |

It so happens the St. Augustine beach area is adjacent to a fast-moving inlet that dumps all sorts of fish out during the tidal changes, and the bigger predators head there for dinner. To determine what you might catch where you are heading, I suggest you talk to the proprietor of a local tackle/bait shop, or other surf fishermen in the area. In Cancun about 30 years ago, I caught a shark while fishing from a less-built up area of the beach. It was a small specimen, what I would call a sandbar shark. But now the area is so built up, I have no idea what might be found there. Remember, it's the getting to the beach and fishing that is important. If you catch something, that's great. -- Let's pray the United States survives the rest of Bush's term. Very Good Advice...thanks all for replying its appreciated. |

State pier, (825 feet) huge Kings were caught off of it all season long, every season, they were caught free lining live bait, with blue runners (hard tails) being the best bait, with L Y's being the number two choice. Free lining is done with a small float or just the line,, the bait hooked in the tail and allowed to swim freely "out",, a number 4 treble hook, about 18 inches of steel single strand (16 to 27 lb test) for a leader -- Rodney Long, Inventor of the Long Shot "WIGGLE" rig, SpecTastic Thread Boomerang Fishing Pro. ,Stand Out Hooks ,Stand Out Lures, Mojo's Rock Hopper & Rig Saver weights, Decoy Activator and the EZKnot http://www.ezknot.com |

Steve They say they have plans to rebuild, (on their web site) but looking at the new park plans they take up the pier's old parking lot with camp sites. They must be planning on moving the new pier further down the beach -- Rodney Long, Inventor of the Long Shot "WIGGLE" rig, SpecTastic Thread Boomerang Fishing Pro. ,Stand Out Hooks ,Stand Out Lures, Mojo's Rock Hopper & Rig Saver weights, Decoy Activator and the EZKnot http://www.ezknot.com |
