More on the BASS Book
This will be in my Griffin Daily News article tomorrow:
I received my third dun from the Ultimate Bass Fishing Library for a book they sent me back in late March. I did not order the book and did not want it. The Bass Angler’s Sportsman Society (BASS) logo is a the top of all their letters and each letter mentions that I am a member of BASS. Twice in the past I have mentioned this scheme. They send you a book you did not request and tell you to either pay for it or send it back. If you pay for it they will sign you up in a book club and send you another book every month that you will have to pay for. They try to make you feel guilty if you don’t respond. This is a very underhanded scheme to get your money, in my opinion, and I will not send the book back or pay for it. The letters admit you don’t have to do either since they sent the book to you unrequested. If everyone kept the book and did not pay for it, maybe they would find a better way to sell their products. I have been a member of BASS for over 30 years and hate to see them involved in this scheme. BASS was headquartered in Montgomery, AL for many years until bought out by ESPN and they are now headquartered in Orlando. Strangely enough, you send your payment for the book to St. Paul, MN and the website for this book club does not have “bass” in it. I am not sure how the book club and BASS are related. This happens every year and I have never sent a book back or paid for it. I wonder if they will ever give up trying to sell me something I don’t want? Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |
Nice article. The one part everyone seems to leave out is that sending
you repeated letters asking you to pay for or the book is ILLEGAL. copy/pasted from USPS.com: "Furthermore, it is illegal for a company that sends you unordered merchandise to follow the mailing with a bill or dunning communication." |
