Western Clave-Quakes

Anyone see the number of earth quakes that have occurred in Western
Montana recently? One today so far and 12 yesterday? I guess we got
out in time?? Maybe a good quake gets the hatch happening and the fish
feeding?

We from CA laugh in Montana's direction. Trains passing within 500 yards
cause more ground tremors than one of those baby MT quakes.

This from cnn.com: "A spokeswoman for the Beaverhead County Sheriff's
Department said there were several reports of damage but no reports of
injuries immediately after the temblor." In other words, "Hey Maude! We
just had a little earth movement here, so call the insurance company and
see if'n we can finally get that rickety ol' chimney repaired." ;-)

That's good because Montanans have been laughing at Californians
forever : -)

The 7.5 richter earthquake in Montana in 1959 was probably pretty funny
too!

I think 19 campers were confirmed dead and more than 25 were
unaccounted for total. It'd be nice to stop at that visitors center
sometime, but with the river right there and it being daylight and all
it's hard to pull into that parking lot!

I reread my post and it probably didn't ooze the sarcasm intended. :(

Steve Martin was in a movie called L.A. Story that was an absolutely
lousy movie, but had two scenes that were memorable. One of the scenes
was in a coffee shop where a group of yuppies were gathered around the
table talking while an earthquake was rocking the building and
everything on the table top was in motion. The quake was never mentioned
in the conversation or recognized by anyone in the restaurant. More
truth in that than fiction.

In 1959 my family had just moved into an old house that had the
convenience of a two holer a few yards from the house. My dad had dug a
hole for a cess pool in the hopes of even more convenience. When the
quake hit (it was during the night) it somehow opened the chicken coop
door and the next morning all our chickens were in the bottom of the
hole. I remember being pretty amused by it.

Russell,

You were in the Saint Anthony area weren't you? That's a good story.

What I found spooky is that the boat ramp on Quake Lake is the old road.
It disappears into the lake, going nowhere but down. Most of those dead
people were no doubt living right along that road.
