Morgan Run this morning...

Went over to Morgan Run this morning for a few hours. Managed to hook into
one Brown (8-10" over twice the width of my hand) with a really ugly/generic
wool nymph I tied a couple months back, and that was it. No complaints, I am
thoroughly happy with the outcome of the morning. Nice to be alone on the
stream. I probably spent more time scaring em off then anything else. Gotta
work on the whole "stealth" concept a bit more. I am having difficulty
figuring out how to approach so as not to spook the fish. First time at this
stream and I like the big rocks, pools and riffles there. I however, have
come to the revelation, that waders and boots are in my future. Wet wading
or my Wellingtons are my only options right now but I think x-mas will bring
me the proper equipment. Until then I'll just have to tread lightly and make
sure my feet are planted firmly. Spent most of the time North of the Klee
Mill Rd. bridge. Figures the only fish I caught was about 50ft. South of the
bridge...heh.Was getting hungry so I packed-up and headed home. Next time
I'll have to bring something along to keep the ol' appetite at bay.

Usually I get frustrated and go home a couple hours into it. My arm was
starting to get a little sore but It was all worth it once I felt the line
tighten up (and it wasn't a snag) on that Brownie...Awesome!

Tight lines!

We were really in need of an actual TR around here.

Thanks Anthony.

No problem...

I can't believe with all the fishermen around this area that there isn't a
regular report here as well.

Anthony,
There's a few of us that fish Morgan run but in the summer the water
gets pretty warm (well, maybe not wet wading warm!) but to the point
that I think the trout get pretty stressed so I lay off them in the
summer. If it's trout I want then I hit the Gunpowder or just go smallie
fishing. Look forward to seeing you on MR in Oct though as it can be
pretty darn good then.

Yeah, that's why i've been staying away from the Patuxent lately...Was told
by more than one of the fishermen around here that it gets warmer than the
fish can deal with during the middle of the summer and they get stressed and
won't bite on anything at all. I have been wanting to check out some other
streams but work has been taking up any time I could have had to go check
out other places. I haven't been to Gunpowder, Owens or Big Hunting Creek
yet and others farther away. I will check them out before it gets too cold.
Come hell or high water!

They'll bite if you give them the right fly. However, catching a
trout in warm water will probably kill it. I stop fishing my favorite
water when the temp gets above 68.

The nice thing about the Gunpowder is (1) it's a tailwater and (2) it's
got a great green buffer due to being surrounded by the park so "Hell
and HIgh water" storms we get this time of year very rarely make it
unfishable. A rarity among our mid-atlantic streams. The temp and flow
are managed by the state in cooperation with a TU plan so it's really a
gem among 8 million people.
