Lake Mohawksin Fishing Report
I had the day off after a guide client pulled a no-show. So I did the most
reasonable thing, called Gil and we went fishing on Mohawksin. We tried the usual spots but had not much activity. It's extremely hot and with the surface water temps are running in the mid to upper 80's, the bite has slowed somewhat. In a matter of 4 hours however, we boated 25 smallies. Some came on flukes, some came on Senkos, some came on tubes and two came on SW spinnerbaits (Firetiger). There didn't seem to be much of a pattern either. We pulled them from rocks, points, stumps, laydowns and cabbage weed edges. One catch was memorable however. Gil hooked a nice chunky 18 inch smallie and as he brought it near the boat, we both noticed that there was one with it. I reeled in, dropped the bait and it was immediately smashed by a good fish.. Chances at a double were dashed however because I was screwing around, trying to get the fish to jump. You have to be careful what you wish for, because I managed to get it to jump and it came unpinned! LOL, oh well, I know where it is. I think it might have been a tad bigger than Gil's fish, which he did land. I'm hoping for some cooler weather, I think that this could be a very memorable event with some very nice catches. The lake certainly has produced some spectacular catches for Gil, myself and a whole lot of clients over the years. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |
