Sometimes I wonder...
Sometimes I wonder if we aren't bamboozling ourselves with into thinking
higher price stuff is really better. Oh, sure I know that quite often you pay for quality. Take th Shimano Curado lines thta have been discontinued. They were great and they cost a little more than other reels. Now they come out wiht "new" models and jack up the price? Bah humbug. I have a very nice St Croix Avid medium moderate crankbait rod. It retails for around $175. I think suggested is $180. It fishes well for my style of cranking and has jsut the right amount of sensitivity and give to hook and play fish. (Remember last year I was complaining about all the crank fish I was losing?) I have been looking at its cheaper younger brother in the St Croix Premier line. Same speed & action. I have visited it in the store several times over the last couple weeks. Today I picked it and and played with it. I flexed it on the floor. Mounted a reel on it and felt its balance. I decided I liked it, Then I picked up another new Avid off the shelf and did the same thing. I swear I could not tell the difference. I bought it. When I got it home I slapped on of my Curados on it, spooled it up with line, and tied on a floating jerk bait. Out to the pool I went. Dang. I still can't tell the difference. Can't wait to get out on the water and try it side by side with my other one. -- -- Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

Lost a curado I had mounted on a compre rod about a week or so ago in the susquehanna river here in PA. Had that shimana curado reel for about 15 years (was an old red one) and never had a problem with it. The rod holder on the other hand... Ed |
