what is a running line?

I'm a flyfishing tyro. My expert friends speak of a "running line" between the backing and the fly line on a fly reel. What is a running line? What material is it? What do I hunt for when shopping for it? All answers will be appreciated. Thanks, steve winston You use a running line if you're using shooting heads. (The running line is the line that's "shot.") If you're using ordinary flylines don't worry about it. Tie the line directly to the backing. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Thanks, steve winston Another use for it is a popular rig for Steelhead, and other fishing where you have enough weight to pull the line out on it's own. It's not tapered same diameter through and through. Mike |
