World Record?
"Matt Guild" said: See this articale at ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/f...d_Weakley_25.1 In their article ESPN posted: "Winn said he hoisted the fish out of the water and did most of the handling, while Dickerson weighed it - on the dock. (The IGFA will only consider for record status a fish weighed on land, Schratwieser said.)" This comment attributed to Schratwieser is absolutely incorrect. Many floating marinas have certified scales on their docks. Since the IGFA instituted its "send us your scales and we'll certify it" program many billfish captains have certified scales on board so fishermen could weigh and release their potential world record fish using a pre-certified scales. IGFA encourages "catch, photograph, weigh, measure and release" without mentioning that it has to be done on land. Because some other comments attributed to IGFA's Schatwieser also seem bogus to me, I am very skeptical of all the other stuff ESPN is saying about the incident. Personally I put far more faith in what San Diego County locals say such as John Kerr posted on this board and what park employees say than what some clueless national press writer says. Be careful about reading anything into a quote that says "IGFA will consider _________." IGFA will "consider" anything!! Some stuff they will "consider" for 2-3 seconds and other stuff they will consider for months. They won't do any OFFICIAL "considering" until IGFA receives an official notarized application accompanied by all the required supporting material. Unless they have changed recently, when IGFA determines an application meets their criteria for "completeness," IGFA will classify the catch as "Pending". You can bet when/if IGFA ever classifies an all tackle caught largemouth bass as Pending World Record, their "consideration" will really begin in depth and it will take far longer that one month to certify a "Current" World Record. g And sadly if this happens, you can also bet that the hype and blabber in the national press will also reach World Record levels.
