Day2 SC - Moe and Randy and Dave
Day 2 -- A high pressure area settled over the lake Saturday as I headed out
with my day 2 partner Randy and our third Dave. The change in weather produced a high blue sky and some morning winds. Not my favorite to fish. I knew overnight winds would muddy the lake some but the area I was fishing in is slightly protected and with a southeast wind should still hold some clean water. The ride across the lake was rougher this morning but we made it safely and went to work trying to catch some keepers. Dave was fishing a speed worm and I was using the Trick worm again. Randy was trying a little of everything. We boated a few short fish and by 11:30 I had two 12 1/4 inch fish in the livewell. Needless to say, the bite was slow. We started working some heavier cove with dollar pads and Dave and his speed worm got hot. The fish were coming up for the worm as it crossed the pads. Then Dave pitched the worm to some thick pads in about 12 inches of water and out came a nice 5.61 pound fish. By now Dave and I both had 4 fish in the boat and Randy was smelling bad. I pitched the trick worm to a think pencil weed point and saw my line make a right and head for open water. I set the hook and after a terrific fight, Dave netted another 5.63 for me. Dave boated another fish and after some confusion culled one and then culled another, it appeared he had miscounted his fish and was culling out the fifth fish. It may have hurt him in the team event but as it turned out, he would be the overall winner. Randy, not to be outdone, proceeded to pitch to some of the heaviest and thickest places he could. It paid off as he boated 2 keepers which would prove to be the fish we needed to place first for the day. Way to go partner. Then just as the day was about to end, Randy threw way back in the slop and a hog pounded his bait. But as big fish do, he showed himself and wrapped in the weeds. Before we could get there the fish was gone. We called it a day and headed back to the weigh in to see how everyone else had done. -- The most precious thing we have is life, yet it has absolutely no trade-in value.
