Missed Hits On Horny Toad ???
I was fishing after sunset Saturday evening, and I got seven or eight hits
on a Zoom Horny Toad. They were pretty tentative hits. Just a little splish at the bait. I tried two different things. The first couple I gave it slack and let the bait fall, and the last three or four I just kept retrieving at the same speed. Neither approach produced any fish. What would you have done? Switch to a popper with lots of trebles hoping they would hook up on the outside on the initial strike? Maybe slip a big treble over the hook on the toad? Go to a buzz bait? P.S. Out topwater bite hasn't really turned on yet down here. Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |

1. What size hook were you using?
2. I would have thrown a buzzbait after the toads, something with a little noise. Seems the frogs disturbed the fish but not enough to have them hammer it. A little noise might have gone a long way. 3. Something I started doing last year was adding a trailer hook to my horney toad hook. I like the Strike King bleeding baits trailer hooks the best -- www.wermieerniebaits.com Making fish regret their decision on a daily basis "Bob La Londe" wrote in message ... I rarely throw a buzzbait, so I would have had to dig one out. 3. Something I started doing last year was adding a trailer hook to my horney toad hook. I like the Strike King bleeding baits trailer hooks the best I have used a large Excalbur treble slid over the crve of the EWG in the past. Didn't have one in the boat tyhat night though. Is the hook your are talking about a feathered trailer? -- www.wermieerniebaits.com Making fish regret their decision on a daily basis "Bob La Londe" wrote in message ...
