First TR of the season...
My first fishing outing on the little Fish Lk. (5 min. From the house) I
decided to honor it this year with my little bamboo rod and the new Orvis reel. Put the Madison in the water, tied on a size 10 Sneaky Pete (what else?) and with hardly a zephyr of a breeze proceeded to work the reeds and lily pads. A bluegill, followed by a sunfish, followed by another gill, things were looking up. Spied a nice hole in the reeds and dropped the SP in there where it was promptly nailed by a bass, a teenager to be sure but an honest to God bass! The little 4 wt handled him with no problem..all 11" of him. Ten minutes later another gill followed by another bass...does it get any better than this on a fine spring day? Geese and red-winged blackbirds serenaded me while I enjoyed the gorgeous scenery, trees budding out and the smell of fresh country air. The wind picked up so I decided on one more cast before returning to the boat launch...HA! Another bass nailed ole SP but got me caught on a lily pad, he finally shook loose and took off for deeper water. This was a biggun and I just couldn't do anything but go along for the ride. He jumped once and spit the hook out...helluva way to start my season this year! Tomorrow I'll see if a bigger rod can turn him. Damned if I can't wait till tomorrow! Been fishing lately? Frank Sr. |

snip Damned if I can't wait till tomorrow! Been fishing lately? Nice report Frankie. I especially like the "We're gonna need a bigger boat" analogy. :) -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |
