A change of fishing style
 

Hi, All,

As there is now a complete lack of any fish worth catching here in South
Devon, I've decided that it's no longer about catching fish, but more of
being outside in some of the most beautiful places in the country. I suppose
this is the reason most of us fish anyway!

To that end, I've decided to specialise in what tackle I use and have gone
for spinning. Now, instead of lugging huge amounts of gear with me whenever
I go out in the often fruitless pursuit of fish, I now just take a light
spinning rod and a few lures.The end result? I still go home with the same
number of fish as before!

Has anybody else had this change of approach, and has it made a difference
to your catches?

Incidentally, I've got a couple of rods on e-bay that I no longer use if
anyone's interested. They are both Shimano Nexave-AX SF 1325's

It's a late starter this year OK compared to recent years - but the water
is/was cold and perhaps we should be looking at winters thirty years ago for
a proper comparison.

There should be pollack over the rocks in your area by now. Spinning is as
good a method as any for them though in daylight you'll have to fish deep
which will cost a few lures. By now I'd have expected the first of the
spring garfish to be off the Hams and they're better approached with a
float at about 2M.

Here (Dorset) it's as if March had just streeeetched - I hear the plaice and
bass are offshore but the beaches have been quiet. This sudden change in
the weather should kick start the season thogh.

Stick with it. The first bass of the year are always taken spinning and
even the first big float catches are usually from shoals found with lures.
