2007 Southern Classic Question
 

I know that this may be a bit early in posting but I was wondering what
all of the other "NON" Boaters out there would think about something
like this. If the fuel prices are as bad or worse than they are right
now would the rest of you non boaters be willing to throw in some sort
of donation to split up between the guys that are nice enough to haul
their boats all the way to Florida?

Its nice that we can always seem to keep the boater/non boater ratio
pretty equal each year and I would like to see that continue. So, what
do you say??????

According to my wife, I'm nuts and would be hauling my boat anyway to
whatever lake you guys decide, but it certainly would be appreciated.

That's funny, my wife says the exact same thing. ;-)

How much more gas would you use hauling a boat from Wisconsin
to Florida versus driving without a boat from Wisconsin to
Florida ? I was surprised when I actually recorded the mileage
on my Forester with and without a canoe on top. Without the
canoe I get about 28mpg highway, with the canoe on top about
25mpg. Significant difference.

I too was surprised. With my old boat, I only lost about 1 - 2 mpg when
pulling it. When I drove to Miami without a boat, I recorded my milage at
every fuel stop. With a 3/4 ton, 4x4 pickup, I was running 80 mph and
getting 17 mpg. When I drove from Miami to Eddyville, pulling the loaner
Fast Cat, my milage dropped to 12!

Of course I was still driving 80 mph.........

On the club tourneys up here we always offer the boater $10 - $15 for fuel
and travel depending on the distance. It's up to the boater to either accept
or refuse the offer.

What I'm trying to say here is that I'm sure that some of us
"non-boaters" may be flying in and those of you that will be driving
(and hauling a boat) we could help with the cost of bringing the boats
for us to fish off of???? I'm more than willing to pitch in. What
would you all think of something like that???? Or would you rather
just offer to pay for 1/2 of the fuel for the boat the day of the
tournament????
