Best Spinning Reel for Braid " Digging in "
 

Does any reel manufacturer make a spinning reel that caters to braid?

I would think that an excessively active level wind would keep the angles of overlap greater and help keep the line from sinking/digging in.

I remember seeing an ad once for a "slow level wind system" to keep the spool tidy, parallel and flat, but this seems the opposite of what is needed now...


After a weekend of having my line bury itself into the spool and foul the cast, I might just be in the market.

Mitchell made a "Spiderwire" reel for that specific purpose. I don't know
if it is still being made, but that would be one to look for. With that
being said, and if you spent a weekend digging out buried line, all I can
say is that you don't have it wound on the spool tight enough! The only
time this can happen "all weekend" is if the line was too loose on the spool
in the first place.

I fish PowerPro 8 and 10 pound test line on Shimano Sahara and Stradic reels
all the time and rarely do I have the line dig into the spool. I suggest
that you take the tag end of the line and tie it to something solid.

Then, flip the bail open and back up until you have ALL the line off the
spool.

Now, close the bail and crank the drag down tight.

Crank the line back on the reel while keeping heavy pressure on the rod.
This will pack the line tightly on the spool and end your digging in
problem.

I agree with Steve here, I also use Power Pro. I have found that if I
spool on some monofilament as backing. Then tie my braid & mono
together, and spool braid on the rest of they way. I never have a
problem with my braid "digging in" on spinning reels or baitcasters for
that matter.
