Ralph Cutter's EC Caddis
I have been told by many that Ralph Cutter's EC Caddis is there go to
fly. In looking at the fly it seems to be a basic elk hair caddis but with a parachute hackle. Anybody got any instruction on how to tie the parachute onto the fly? My problem is do I tie it on after the elk hair is tied on or before. I tried it both ways and it is cumbersome to me . Maybe it is just a new technique for me but was wondering if someone had a better/good way to do it. Thanks Allyn |
Ralph Cutter's EC Caddis
I have been told by many that Ralph Cutter's EC Caddis is there go to fly. I use Mike Lawson's EZ Caddis which I modified and call an EZer EP Caddis ( if you can think of a new name you have created a pattern !!! :-) Seriously, try using Partridge feathers instead of the Elk ... lays flatter, easier to work with, more natural looking ... and use EP fibers or something similar for the post ( tied in after the body and wing ) .... tie a piece down in the middle of the piece with two wraps, hold both ends up and take half dozen wraps around the base of the post to stand it up then two behind and two in front to anchor it's position .... tie in the hackle, dub and wind hackle ... go fish here is a picture http://www.danica.com/FLYTIER/jwoola...ddis_green.htm *** Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com *** |

FWIW, I will catch fish on an EC, during a caddis, or mayfly hatch. I tie the hackle in first, then the hair. I find the EC to be much easier to tie than a standard parachute. brians |
