My boy's first bass...

My wife and I were both off from work today, so I had planned on getting her
out on the boat today. She says I never offer to take her with me, so today
in the 97 degree heat... was her day to go. LOL

Anyway, we took our son with us since all I was really wanting to do was to
run the boat for awhile. So after replacing the prop that Joe had modified
the night before, the three of us were off to waste gas, see some sights,
and spend some time together. Bradley Jr., after driving around some, wanted
to catch some fish. I wasn't really planning on fishing or I would have
picked up a box of night crawlers and went somewhere shady and caught a load
of bream... but, I told him we'd fish my way.

Went to secret spot number 1 that only Joe and I, and probably the rest of
Nashville know about and dropped the trolling motor. I reached into the rod
locker to get a rod and found one with a jig. I pitched it to a few places,
handing Bradley the rod each time. About his fifth time he set the hook! I
had to coach him a little on keeping the rod tip up, but all in all he did
great. Finally, he swung it over into the boat "just like the do on TV", and
almost into his mothers lap. He had a nice smallmouth of about 14". He
fished for a few more minutes, but tired out since the action just wasn't
there. It was hot anyway and sitting still too long was almost impossible.

Bradley wouldn't hold his catch, so unfortunately I couldn't get his
picture. But, I'm sure that the two of us will still remember this for a
long while.

Sounds like a good time and memory Charles.

Congrats Charles on your son's fish. I have been fishing crappies this
spring in hopes of getting my boys interested and even when the bite
has been good their interest level usually lasts only 10 minutes. The
only thing keeping them in the boat is lots of toys and the promise of
ice cream when we are done.

That's great Charles !
I took my 2 yr. old bream fishing last week and he went crazy when he caught
one. He wouldn't hold it either but I will never forget the look on his
face.
My 8 yr. old will not get out of my tackle now after catching that bass on a
trick worm that I posted recently on abpf. :)

Great memory Charles.
Thanks for sharing with all of us. Both of my boys caught their first fish
on the same cane pole I used when I was a kid. Print your posting and save
it the baby book. It will be fun for him to see in 20 years. Joe Z.

He sure has your genes, Charles... he'll really demonstrate that when he
lands his first big catfish on a buzzrbait!

Now that's just funny Bob. :)
I live not too far from Charles and I keep having a dream that I will run
into him at a Catfish Restaurant.
