Suggestions for fishing lake dillon CO [for fishing newbies]?

Is fly fishing too "advanced" or could we hope to succeed just a bit
....

Our family is on vacation. At a last minute we have rented a fishing
boat on lake dillon CO for tomorrow morning. We are rank newbies to
serious fishing (couple of times a year we take our cheap spin casting
rods to lake near Fort Worth and catch mostly pan fish.)

We didn't expect to fish so we'll have to buy whatever tomorrow at
WalMart (opens a 7:00 AM; boat rental is 8:45 AM).

Recommenations on what kind of fish should we target?

Suggestions on what rods, reals, bait we should buy?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Mark

P.S. We've already spent $$$ (most of our vacation budget) on a fly
fishing guided half day earlier this week. I could not attend but my
wife and kids enjoyed the outing. Sadly, I don't think they learned a
lot .... though each did catch and release several small trout.

Mr. Fortenberry:

You can call me on my business' toll free line and leave a voice mail
[800 520-5227] to verify that I am not whoever this "Tim Walker" is. I
will check my voice mails after we get back from dinner ~ 9:00 PM.

I will make it a point to return your call.

Sincerely,
Mark

Ahahahahahaahaahaha!
Boy, did *that* boomerang!

See, Mr. Fortenberry was actually *paging* Tim Walker - who lives or lived
somewhere in the general vicinity of Colorado - on your behalf.

But, do carry on...

/daytripper (It's *much* more humorous your way ;-)

You've probably spent too much time on newsgroups where people
impersonate other people or use new alaii to confuse things. Here we
only do that for occasional humour and I don't think I've ever seen
anyone do it to a newcomer. Other ugly things, but not that. And
we're generally nice to straightforward newcomers like you. It's only
the SPAMmers and the jerks we're nasty to right off.

Ken was trying to get Tim Walker's attention so he could help you out.

Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. Really.

Here's 5 tips...
1) Giberson Bay, in the evening, you should find excellent rises to
midges.
2) Around the south shore are islands, have someone drop you off and
wade around the shallows casting streamers (or Rapalas if you have
them) for big browns
3) The Blue River inlet at first light, great place to strip streamers,
Doc. Spratleys, B52's
4) Along the Swan Mountain road, troll these same lake streamers on a
floating line
5) From the outlet (the Glory Hole) walk up the road to The Old Dillon
Water Supply, huge brook trout, up to 15 inches, you'll need streamers
to catch them as there are abundant forage fish

Limit your fishing as well as the number you keep, but always remember
there is a wild animal involved.

Call Barney Cohen at 800-453-4669 (Mountain Anglers) and tell him I
recommended you to him, he'll take great care of you.

Thanks everyone for your help.

My wife and I did fish Lake Dillion last Tuesday and Wednesday. Sadly I
couldn't get a wireless connection from the family that let us stay at
their Breckenridget home (still under construction). I should have been
think very low tech ... and brought a phone cord for old fashion dial
up access. II missed the last two posts very informative posts. ARGH.

We did catch two brownies the old fashioned way, on spin cast rigs with
worms. The senery was breathtaking. We had a wonderful time.

Defination of water tortu renting a "fishing boat" with only a 15 hp
motor. Upon leaving the Dillion marina we laughed at the warning about
not exceeding the 5 mph wake limit. If only we COULD get up to 5 mph.
College kids in kayaks were zipping past us....:)
